In this week's issue...
Your energy bill actually has 2 parts
Most operators look at their utility statement and assume the entire line item is locked in. One company. One rate. No options
That’s only half right…

The physical infrastructure connected to your building is the Delivery, a local monopoly in most places
But the actual electricity flowing through those wires is the Supply. In deregulated markets, supply is an open commodity you can shop around for 💳
Wind, nuclear, fixed-rate, variable… these are all competitive suppliers using the exact same delivery grid
Owners miss this because statements usually mash delivery and supply together under one utility logo. So the bill feels like rent: fixed and unavoidable. It isn't
If you run a plant, cold storage, or any facility that eats heavy wattage, the supply contract is your highest-leverage lever. Before you look at a new HVAC system or get another lecture on LED lighting, look at your contract 📃
Three questions to check before you renew:
Who supplies vs. delivers your power?
Are you on a fixed or variable rate?
When does the contract end, and what happens if you do nothing?
Pull last month’s statement and locate the supply line item. If you can’t easily tell supply from delivery, that’s your sign to dig deeper
